  What I did a few years ago was get her used to using VLC for all video/tv
watching.  Since VLC worked on Windows as well, so VLC for everything here
she's used to the interface, and my laptop auto logs in to a GUI where VLC icon
is right in the middle of the desktop. (Just like windows had) ;)
