RA> Have you seen the recent posting of the Mod for the PRO-43 which
RA> opens up the bands from shortwave to 1300 MHZ???
BC>It's not 'recent'. The original developer of the PRO-43
BC>Shortwave & Extended Receive mod is Al Mellon N8KLI,
BC>n8kli@aol.com.
The posting was indeed 'recent'. No-one said the mod itself
was recent. The only error Robert made was to push it up
to 1300 MHz.
BC>Andrew's derivation appears that it might work better than
BC>the original because he eliminates the 30-54 MHz bandpass
BC>filter that would otherwise attenuate shortwave signals.
BC>What it does to VHF-Lo signals for normal scanning is
BC>unknown. Perhaps Andrew will comment on that.
Perhaps I will. I do very little low band scanning, so I
wasn't that concerned with side effects. Tapping into
the antenna input might have affected the higher bands that
are of interest to me. VHF-Lo signal strengths are unaffected
(so sez the S-meter). The only side effects I have noticed
are the occasional pager signals coming in on the 46 MHz
cordless phone frequencies. If it becomes a problem, I can
just cut the jumper.
