Jeff, the best setup for you at the moment would be to just lay it in
the bottom with a little water to help it get the audio noise out. Yeap,
it is audio. You do not hear it but dogs and dolphins do.
Or you could mount it on a bracket and hang it over the side.
A semi permanent job would be to mount it into a plastic pipe, large
enough to hold the transducer, on to of the pipe, you should mount a
cover, tight. Fill it up with cooking oil and cover so it will not
spill. Rest it vertical to the boat and glass the thing in. I guess you
should glas it in before you pour the oil in. Less of a mess. You will
loose a bit of depth reading, meaning that instead of reading to 245'
you might get only 225'. This is a rough estimation only. I have mounted
many a transducer this way for friends and some are still in in the same
way after many a moon. My motto: no hole in the bottom. (for hulls only)
