| subject: | forcing HST without B1 |
Also, bear in mind, that whenever an SDL upgrade is to be
released in Australia, it needs to go through re-approval by
Austel, which costs in the vicinity of $20,000 ---> $200,000.
Do such products gain a new Austel approval number?
I do not know unfortunately. I would suggest you ask AUSTEL what
their policy is on this. Modem Connection does not do the
Approvals for USR. U.S. Robotics handle them.
The USR modems when using the B1 command will answer a call with
a 2225 Hz tone, which is not permissible under TS 002. However,
there is nothing in Austel TS 002 to prevent the use of B1 in
outgoing calls, yet the information supplied with USR modems
suggests that B1 is not permitted in any case.
This is of concern to people who wish to enable HST connections
without violating any stated conditions of operation.
Could you please let me know what action you intend taking over this
issue.
Unfortunately at this stage, there are no future plans to resolve this
issue - B0 must be set on the modem, or it will void the AUSTEL permit.
You mentioned that B1 is used for customers what wish to use HST only.
There is an alternative solution to force the modem at HST only... There
are two S-Registers which need to be modified.
ATS56=192S54=192 <--- This will disable V34 and VFC modulations leaving
V32 and HST. If the customer requires HST only (4800,
7200,9600,12000,14400,16800) then also use ATS27=4 (this will Disable V32
Modulation). If you require V32, but not 19200 and 21600, then ATS34=128
should do the trick.
