Hi Rod,
I have since discovered that you *can't* create your own ASC()
or CHR$() with either a string or an external file. Telemate is not
case sensitive with its STRPOS procedure when reading a string, or in
is READ procedure when reading a file! Blood hell! I've been able to
wrok around everything else, but this is the end of civilisation as we
know it (with Telemate, anway).
The only thing left is to write the main freq program in BASIC (or
whatever - I think I prefer Pascal) and call it from inside Telemate.

I have written this procedure. I call it skidmarks(buff, bum, poop)
