pushing glass is sort of a mindless thing so here is something to occupy
you while you dream of that finished 1/20 wave mirror. The estimated mass
of the earth is 6 ^ 22 tons. It is estimated that between 10,000 and 30,000
tons of space dust falls on the earth annually. At times this amount might
reach as high as 100,000 tons depending on the earth's orbit. The estimate
for the solidification of the earth's mantle is 4.5 billion years. If we
use a conservative estimate of dust falling to earth annually of 20,000
tons, the earth's mass has increased 9 ^ 13 in the past 4.5 billion years.
What effect has this had with the earth's orbit and what effect will it
have on the moon's orbit. At what point will the earth's mass finally draw
the moon to earth?
