Mostly, I go out of my way to avoid writing controversial things on this
list. I try to stick to "Just the facts, Ma'am."  This time, I
deliberately wrote something I knew would be a bit controversial.  I am
glad I did, the discussion has had a number of illuminating aspects.

I'll go back to "Just the facts" for at least a little while.
