stick this in vars_local.mk:
 
CFLAGS += -DHAVE_TIMER_T
CXXFLAGS += -DHAVE_TIMER_T
 
Also, if you can find the header on your system where timer_t is defined
(e.g. typedef int timer_t; -- in /usr/include/*.h or /usr/include/*/*.h)
and can post it back, I will try to make it build on your system without
these mods.
