Migration to Slack 12.0 temporarily on hold! I installed one of the new SATA 250's and installed Slack 12.0 on a smallish slice of it. Then I started copying my data from the original IDE 40 and SATA 200 drives, so I could remove them prior to installing the second SATA 250 and migrating to RAID1. Would you believe that I started getting I/O errors from a large data area on the old SATA drive? 348 files errored out, and I was able to recover all but nine from a backup drive on another machine on the network. Eight of the missing files are available on old backups burnt to CD, so the biggest problem will be finding the right CDs. And the last file is /sbbs/data/subs/dove-gun.sdt unfortunately, so I will truncate the sub and reimport the last X messages from Vertrauen. But I'll do that after the migration is complete. And as soon as I remember the easiest way to do that... Ok, so I have to restore the missing eight files from CD before the process of migration continues. Unfortunately, I have minimum three, possibly (hopefully not) more, days of intense work to do, *job* wise, so I don't know when I'll get back on it. Currently, I'm booting the old install off the faulty disk and keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't pack up completely before I get around to completing the job. --- þ Synchronet þ Linus is a regular at The ANJO BBS.
