On 01-09-98, ROBERT CRAFT declared to ROBERT PLETT:
RC> RP> How interesting. And how is it that it is shown children
RC> RP> have been educated in those things, lest someone be accused
RC> RP> and convicted of child abuse?
RC>Pop quizzes are child abuse? How droll.
Sorry, Robert, my above quoted paragraph doesn't say that.
RC> RP> You know how - by testing knowledge of content. How does
RC> RP> one test knowledge of content and conclude the results
RC> RP> represent an adequate education or lack thereof without the
RC> RP> use of standards, hmmmm?
RC>Because the government - state or federal - isn't the one
RC>who sets the standards or the grades. Standards and grading
RC>criteria are set by the school board and PTA.
Ever hear of Goals 2000? National testing? Besides, the school board
itself is a form of local government, and both it and the PTA carefully
follow state and federal government guidelines.
RC> RP> You're sounding a lot like the Affirmative Action folks who
RC> RP> say it isn't quotas they seek, but can't determine
RC> RP> compliance without them.
RC>::sigh:: Try reading what I write, not what you want me to
RC>have written. The state I grew up in - Illinois - dictated
RC>only the minimum number of quarters of specific subjects I
RC>must take to graduate.
And I say the state of Illinois had no business dictating any of that.
RC>The content and slant of the course,
RC>textbooks, the grading standards AND the standards for
RC>graduation were determined by the local school board and
RC>PTA. Since my parents were active in the PTA and even
RC>served on the school board, it's quite clear that the
RC>predominate influence in my primary and secondary education
RC>was that of my parents, and their friends and neighbors.
Who were acting in accordance with the dictates of government. |-)
