You need to open a DDE link with Program Manager (ProgMan or Progman), and say

[CreateGroup(groupname,Groupfile)]

to create a group, and to add icons,

[AddItem(executable,ProgramName,,,)]

I haven't tried it, but I suspect that you can specify the working directory as

[AddItem(executable,ProgramName,WorkingDirectory,,)]

There are other things you can specify, hence the two commas - but I don't
know what they are.

I don't know the specifics for C/C++. I've only done this in Visual Basic.
