subject: A question about tenses

Hi, Alexander! Recently you wrote in a message to Anton Shepelev:

AS> The phrase "I forgot he was vegetarian!" (with!?! was' and
AS> no article before!?! vegetarian') is a quote from the book!

AK> Well, taking in mind that it was a horror story, it could
 AK> mean:
AK> 1. He stopped be a vegetarian after that meal.
AK> 3. He was a vegetarian and died from that meal.

Bearing in mind that he was a new acquaintance, the information he'd
given to his hostess probably still applied. If that's the scenario, however,
one might well ask why she couldn't have said "... he is (a) vegetarian". :-Q
