Because if '.' (the current directory) isn't in the exectuble search path than
you must either move the executable (in this case, syncterm) into a directory
that *is* in your search path or specify the path (full or relative) to the
executable file. './prognam' says to the shell: execute the file 'progname'
which is located in the current directory.
