-> Hi Mike:
-> ->> MF> On may 31st, Pacific bell is changing the switchboard in
-> ->> MF> my town from an older analog board to a DMS-100.
->
-> MF> How much worse are your connection speeds now than they
-> MF> were before the digital switch was put in?
->
-> Dialing a local BBS with same prefix as mine: FAAXBBS (209)226-7162)
-> Old analog ESS SPEED = 33600RCV/33600SND
-> New digital ESS SPEED = 31200/31200 (RECEIVE/SEND) (Current Speed).
-> Dialing other local BBS's also using USR V34+ modems but -not- in
-> same swithing office yeilded 28800/26400.
I've never seen anything past 28800, because the equipment where I live
is so old and lousy. Well actually my friend down the street did see a
31200RCV/26400SND, with a local bbs, but the connection dropped almost
instantly.
-> Current speed Fresno to Youngstown, Ohio: Rusty-N-Edie's BBS =
-> a rock-solid 26400/26400, resulting in 3050cps download averages.
-> 330-726-3628
That's great for long distance.
-> Current speed (Fresno to U.S.R. BBS} using x2 (847-982-5092) =
-> 44000/24000... Very good receiving, very poor transmitting.,
-> average dl speed is in high 4000's cps.
->
-> MF> Well, maybe SBC will shapen up the company.
->
-> U.S.West now owns all of Continental Cable in the U.S.!
-> Continental's new name: MediaOne. Promising Fresno area residents
-> Broadband service within a year, and local dialtone sometime later.
-> Look too, in the future for satelite phone service! A worldwide
-> consortium planning to deploy 66 satelites for phone service
-> anywhere in the world, succeeded in placing 5 of them in orbit
-> a week or two ago.
Well, I have an uncle that is working on something similar to that, but
It doesn't need satilites to run, just dishes at your house.
