SS> Massachusetts
SS> Last week the Senate passed S.148, Sen. Jacques' so-called
SS> "assault weapons" ban through Second and Third Readings in the
SS> middle of the night. The bill now goes to the House with a new
SS> number (Senate 1985) due to the amendment changes. Not only will
SS> S.1985 ban laser sights, large capacity magazines, and the
SS> inheritance of certain firearms, BUT IT WILL ALSO BAN MOST
SS> SEMI-AUTOMATIC FIREARMS MANUFACTURED AFTER 1899. S.1985 will
SS> also create "gun courts", create gun storage requirements and
SS> negligence statutes.
SS> Make no mistake! This is no longer a bill which would
SS> outlaw a list of firearms because they look threatening. This is
SS> an attack against all firearms owners in Massachusetts.
SS> Your voice is important now more than ever! Let your
SS> Representative know that banning guns is not the way to stop
SS> crime. Call, fax and E-mail your representative today and urge
SS> them to oppose S.1985 and tell them that this package is too
SS> broad based and would make criminals out of ordinary citizens.
It's obvious that the Massachusetts legislature isn't "cracking down on
crime": it just killed the death-penalty bill.
Mention _that_ to your legislator!
