My previous experiences with excessive collisions came from  bad NICs. I
know it sound strange but I had an individual come in with a FLUTE and
analysis the WAN and we found the packets were generated from 1 specific
machine. We checked the config. on the machine and found out the card was
running the WRONG IRQ.  Later that year same problem and we narrowed the
problem, a bad NIC. The card just went bad. I would check the Hardware first
using the Utility Tools for that NIC.
