JS>Huh. I've not even seen one of these. Unca Sam doesn't invite me over
JS>for demos anymore. I wonder, does Jane's make a small arms annual?
I don't know if Janes does. But Brassey does. Look up
"Brassey's Infantry Weapons of the World". Mine is old,
copyrighted 1975. Doesn't have an ISBN but the Library of
Congress catalog card number is 74-20627. This book does not have
the 106mm recoilless rifle.
Brassey also has an "Artillery of the World", copyright 1977,
ISBN 0-517-27718-2. The 106mm recoilless rifle is in this book.

This popular weapon dates from 1953. It is a conventional smooth
bore, breech loaded weapon, with an interrupted screw type
breech. Barrel life is in excess of 2,5000 rounds. Percussion
firing is used. A .50 calibre (12.7mm) spotting rifle is mounted
above the barrel. The basic weapon less mounting weighs only 130
kilograms.
Elevation varies with the mounting, but is very generous for the
trailer mount. At 39.5 dgrees elevation the HEP-T rond ranges to
6,876 m, giving the weapon a useful secondary role if the
necessary fire control arrangements can be made. Armour
penetration is formidable. A modified weapon, the M40AIC has an
improved breech mechanism.

The M40AI is built under license in Brazil, Israel, Japan (known
as the Type 60) and Spain. The Austrian M40AI's are known as Pak
66 and are fitted to a locally designed trailer -- giving two
barrel positions which give an overall height of .63 or .93 m.
