RA>We've had a week of spring here so far. While the northeast was getting

I've been following the flooding in the northern plains. The last I
heard, some rivers have reached heights not seen for 500 years; and the
waters are still rising.
Question: how do they know how high a flood was 500 years ago anyway?
But it is spring. About a third of the trees here in South Jersey are
in leaf now. The buttonwood outside my window is among them.
