WH> I think only root is allowed to mount/unmount.
Thanks for your feedback. I found how to do it. Took me a while and part
of the problem is the Redhat file system manager. To get around it I had
to manually edit the /etc/fstab.
I did "chmod 4555 mount" first.
Then I did an edit on the fstab to show:
/dev/fd0 /mnt/fdfat msdos noauto,rw,user 0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/fdext2 ext2 noauto,rw,user 0 0
I then created these two directories in the /mnt directory and rebooted.
I don't know if I had to reboot but I did, I don't think you have to.
Now I can mount both fat and ext2 floppies in their respective mount
points. If the write protect tab is on it will give you an error that it
is mounting the file system as read only.
The problem with the Redhat file system manager is it only wants to see
/dev/fd0 once in the fstab. So if I start the package manager it will
delete the bottom entry without even asking. I guess I will make a backup
and only make my entries via an editor.

WH> I tried several differant ppp howtos until I got a file from a local
WH> guru that is easy to run and compile. It is 'qadliw2.tgz'. You only
WH> need enter your ISP name, the addresses xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and tel number.
WH> And username and password on the ISP. It then links up when you do
WH> 'ppp on' and hangs up with 'ppp off'. It had only one bug in that it
WH> compiled the 'ppp' into wrong dir. but that is easy to move to
WH> /usr/sbin. I have that available for download from my BBS, number
WH> below, but I do not support freq yet. It is in my pub/linux dir. and
 WH> only 7k in size.
I will keep this in mind. I have only been playing with this for a short
while and want to see what I can learn first. I have been sick and short
on time and haven't done much. I started four day work week this week so
I hope to spend more time with Linux.
Thanks,
Doug
