Check it out, you will notice that it shows the
relative "fraction" of the tide, but not the actual height. It
does not give an indication of + feet from mean low tide. There
is a program, Tides, that you can customize to give some
indication of the actual height of tide. For example, there is a
short cut to a fishing hole that I can uses if the height of the
tide is 1 foot above mean low and I maintain a speed of 24kts
(hope I don't find a floating tree some day). If the watch
indicates a 3/4 tide on a day near neap tide, I'll never make it,
but can easily do it on a spring tide.
IOW, on a day with the high tide only 1.1 feet above the mean low
tide the watch will register as above at half tide (with water
level .6 feet deeper than at low tide)

It will register exactly the same on a day with a high tide 2.8
feet above the mean low tide even though the water will now be
1.4 feet depper than at low tide.

It certainly will be more comfortable on a cold day. I was out
in the snow this morning trying to tong a few oysters. BRRRRRRRR.
