Hi Maurice, Fancy meeting you here Just figured I'd post and say hi >> Dunno about the unix world, but I know that I keep hearing about >> qedit here in the Fido world. > Lean and mean. Extremely functional too for it's size. The version I > used was ~60k but couldn't handle filesizes much greater than 500k which > was never an issue. Still isn't despite the bloated editors these days. Qedit is one that never got used here much.. probably because I was in the DOS world for such a short time, then switched to OS/2, then linux.. been there since about 1995 I think (hard to remember ). >> but I know I've heard others talk about using it with their >> setups, still > No surprise here. If there was a Unix version I'd probably be using it. I'll have to ask Nancy if it uses the Ctrl+? keys that PCDos's Wordstar uses? If so, and if she's running linux she should try the joe editor.. it's very wordstar-ish .. crtl+K X to save, that kind of thing.. >> The death of BBSing has been touted for years, but it's still >> chugging along > Somewhat. I still prefer them and will keep using them if it is > possible to. That's good :) >> and I've noticed some oldtimers returning > I saw that too. Seems to happen in cycles although the peaks are lower > and lower with each successive repeat. Here's a look a the nodelist files since August, this includes all zones: -rwxr-xr-x 1 bbs bbs 162K 2009-08-13 23:51 /home/ftp/pub/nodelist/nodelist.z26 -rwxr-xr-x 1 bbs bbs 162K 2009-08-20 23:45 /home/ftp/pub/nodelist/nodelist.z33 -rwxr-xr-x 1 bbs bbs 162K 2009-08-27 23:46 /home/ftp/pub/nodelist/nodelist.z40 -rwxr-xr-x 1 bbs bbs 163K 2009-09-03 23:46 /home/ftp/pub/nodelist/nodelist.z47 -rwxr-xr-x 1 bbs bbs 181K 2009-09-10 23:45 /home/ftp/pub/nodelist/nodelist.z54 -rwxr-xr-x 1 bbs bbs 162K 2009-09-17 23:52 /home/ftp/pub/nodelist/nodelist.z61 -rwxr-xr-x 1 bbs bbs 163K 2009-09-24 23:45 /home/ftp/pub/nodelist/nodelist.z68 -rwxr-xr-x 1 bbs bbs 163K 2009-10-02 00:01 /home/ftp/pub/nodelist/nodelist.z75 -rwxr-xr-x 1 bbs bbs 163K 2009-10-08 23:56 /home/ftp/pub/nodelist/nodelist.z82 -rwxr-xr-x 1 bbs bbs 142K 2009-10-15 23:55 /home/ftp/pub/nodelist/nodelist.z89 -rwxr-xr-x 1 bbs bbs 160K 2009-10-22 23:46 /home/ftp/pub/nodelist/nodelist.z96 -rwxrwxrwx 1 bbs bbs 141K 2009-10-29 23:45 /home/ftp/pub/nodelist/nodelist.z03 -rwxrwxrwx 1 bbs bbs 141K 2009-11-05 23:46 /home/ftp/pub/nodelist/nodelist.z10 Ok pretty small compared to the "old days" but not reall much change since august. Now I happen to know that Region 15 in Zone 1 hasn't been represented "fully" in the nodelist in at least the last 2 weeks.. that's why you see the drop in nodelists 303 and 310. I expect this week's nodelist to reflect the full region again since the problem was found over there. Not a lot of 'k' but every little bit helps .
