Greetings, Dan!!
While you were muttering to Tom Mckeever, , you spake thusly:
DC> -> On 06-13-95 19:14, Tom Mckeever got back to Dan Ceppa
RD> Or the fact that she was born at sea, 20 miles off Green
RD> Turtle.
DC> Must be something in the water around Green Turtle that
TM> Aye, Matey - 'Tis a quiet and romantic place in the Spring!
TM> We spent close to a year there aboard SYRINX, our W32...
DC> Just where is this place located? Sounds like a great place
DC> to spend a weekend if you can't hang around for a year...
Green Turtle Key is in Abaco, Bahamas - sort of a trip back to an
English Colony of the 30's-40's with Satellite dishes! - We've been
lurking there off and on since '73, and can NEVER get past them to go
south to Nassau or the Exumas or Caribbean points south! .. As My
Wife says - "when you find paradise - Why move on?" - The ONLY thing
you must realize is that it takes Months to be no longer considered a
Tourist. When you pass that elusive point, you are family!! When my wife
was sick at midnight in '85, they came out to our boat with the Ferry,
left a person to stay with the Kids, Rushed her over to Great Abaco,
where the Dr. from Treasure Cay had driven up 7 miles over dirt roads at
2 AM to relieve her pain and have us move into his office for the next
day - THEN strangers at Treasure Cay Gave us their BEAUTIFUL Condo to
use while she recovered. 2 Days later another stranger in a 40' Sport
Fisherman ran us back to SYRINX at Green turtle to help her collect her
belongings, then over to The Airport dock where we shipped her home to
Boston, via Palm Beach AND the PILOT made sure she got on the Boston
plane before heading back to the Abacos!!.. Yup - it's BETTER in
the Bahamas!! (But BEST in the abacos!! )
DC> BTW, I'm looking into an Erickson 32, about '75 vinatage....
DC> Do you happen to know of anything that I should know about
DC> that boat? I'm considering one as a "live aboard" for
DC> myself...
I'm planning (with great sorrow) to sell our 1976 WESTSAIL 32 we have
owned since '81.. We WERE going to go back to the Islands, but a
Quadruple Bypass and Post-Polio-Syndrome have kinda kicked that idea
out! :-( - The WESTSAIL 32 is, by far, the ruggedest and the most
seakindly Liveaboard/World Cruiser ever made. Derived from a North Sea
Pilot Boat, it is a single-handers dream, yet provided me, the Wife, my
two kids, a cat, a dog, a zillion Hermit crabs and all my HAM gear with a
stable, heavy-displacement comfortable, safe home afloat for almost 5
years.. We EVEN had 2 Guests for 2 months! (And remained married!! )
SYRINX has been to Greece, Italy, Israel and all through the Med and
Caribbean, as well as the Azores and Bermuda, and W32's are becoming
hard to find. (Yeah.. You guessed it.. I'm in love with that Boat! )
But go, she must.. She is in the water here in Merritt Island, Fl and
needs a little TLC from lack of use.. Perkins 4-108 Diesel and tons of
Sails, some never out of the Bag(s).. She is surveyed and insured for
$55K, but we are looking for 40-45K and/or some Ocean-view or Lakefront
property in the Carolinas/Georgia as a possible trade-in.. Maybe even a
Land-Yacht in the 25-30' range..
See what happens? - Ya get me on a roll, and I ramble on!!
Take care!!
Tom..
