I have two old home-variety extinguishers consisting of glass globes filled
with an oily green liquid.  The base of the globes contained a mechanism that
would, when heated, release a spring-loaded plunger which would break the
glass.  The fluid would spray from a series of holes in the plastic holder
which held the globes.  These were mounted above the doors of my Aunt's
kitchen, and are at least 40 years old if not older.  They are complete and

excellent condition.
