If you can stomach _Selling England_ you have a great future in prog. This
album is way too much for most rock fans. You should stick it out. Go for
the English giants first (Yes, more early Genesis, Jethro Tull, ELP, etc.),
then move on to the top Italian stuff. Start with PFM, any of the following:
_Storia di un Minuto_
_Live in USA_
_Per un Amico_
If you like what you hear, ask for more tips.
And 2nd tier English stuff, like Gentle Giant, Camel, Renaissance, etc., etc.
The BEST thing you can do, though, is hop on the net:
Fredman's quickie FAQ for new prog fans:
The RMP FAQ's, maintained by Phil Kime:
http://www.cogsci.ed.ac.uk/~philkime/rmp_faqs.html
Contain a wealth of info, including descriptions of various prog subtypes.
The prog website, maintained by the unforgettable Adam Levin:
http://www.ari.net/prog/
Contains a lot of info, and links to many other prog resources.
Gibraltar Magazine, with links to the Gibraltar Encyclopedia of Progressive
Rock, maintained by our very own Mike Taylor:
http://www.museum.tulane.edu/pub/gibraltar/gibraltar.html
The encyclopedia contains reviews of all the majors, and many, many lesser
known prog acts.
The best friend a prog fan has is knowledge.
