After following some advice related to fixing the
aforementioned defect, I have been able to reduce the error from ~3/8"
to perhaps one-third of that, this on a 12.5" f/6.5, a 6" f/8.5
and a 5" f/7 (cut from a damaged 6-inch blank). Although progress has
been slow, it is nevertheless certain, and I imagine I will have three
nice, smooth spherical surfaces when I finish with general
polishing.
As the motto goes, an ounce of prevention
is worth a pound
of cure. My question is, how does this apply to my situation? Since this
feature manifests itself in/on every mirror I polish, I imagine that it is
due to some type of habit I have yet to identify. Perhaps it is difficult
to pinpoint just where and why the error is occurring without a more
detailed description of my techniques; nevertheless, let
the advice roll in, and I will sort it out as best I
can.
