For business, I would only rely on a machine that provides TAPED incoming
messages. Another fellow here mentioned a PhoneMate-2. Sounds like a fine
choice; PhoneMate has a fine reputation. But *do* find a model that BACKS UP
your own digital outgoing message so that you do not have to keep resetting
your machine. Usually, it is a simple matter of having a 9V battery option.
I have a Panasonic KX-T5300 (not digital). It's a 2-line model. Outgoing
and incoming messages are on two mini-cassettes. The machine is very quiet.
I also have a KX-T5100. It's a 1-line model, but it allows you to choose
between TWO outgoing messages. It also allows you to select an ANNOUNCE ONLY
mode. That can be handy. This model is also ALL TAPE for both IN and OUT
messages.
I have seen the dual- tape/digital models that have been mentioned. Some of
them are even cheaper than the Panasonic tape units. But if you decide to go
digital, find one that has the BACKUP option. You will be glad you did.
