My modem (lightspeed 1414) came with some piece of paper with something

similar on it. It had an init string in it which was supposed to be used

otherwise it would void the austel permit. I used it once and I didn't

like it so I just made my own.

Also, I once saw an avtek (spew) which said in the manual that you needed

to use an avtek cord from the wall socket to the modem otherwise you void

the austel permit.

Personally I don't give a shit, how many people follow these useless rules?
