Hello Steven!
I accidently erased your message re Sharon McCrumb. You had commented on the
fact that her funny ones were of little substance. They are the best kind for
light summer reading.
On the other hand, Pretty Peggy-O was not funny - it was about the Vietnam
war. That was a war I didn't pay a lot of attention to. After all it was the
Americans who were fighting not the Canadians. Also I never could figure what
it was all about. Several mysteries I have read have dealt with the war and
especially its after effects - usually having a veteran of the war as a
character. Pretty Peggy-O was quite different - still disturbing. War is hell
and continues to be so long after the actual fighting is over.
I just finished an excellent book by Laurie R. King called "To Play The
Fool". A lot of research goes into her books and she doesn't write to a
formula. The other one I read was "Beekeeper's Apprentice" which I read
because we are beekeepers. Her beekeeping facts were good which impressed me.
So long for now,
Joan (tuckey@planet.eon.net)
