I can't tell you anything about the shareware version, I only used
it for a short period of time, then I liked it so much, I registered
it. As you can see my version is just a little over three years old.
Here is what part of the documentation has to say about it:

I really like it. It came with all the latest frequencies for
Oregon, based on the FCC's most current information. It sorted
fields fast on my 386 and lightning fast on my 486. I see my copy is
older than I thought, but even this copy fulfilled my needs and
allowed me to find all the frequencies that I wanted for my scanner.
It also contained a number of frequencies that I couldn't find in
Police Call. I don't know what updates the current program has over
the older program. One thing that really impressed me too, was when
I initially started using the program, I had a problem getting it to
sort right. I logged on the Scanware BBS and left a message asking a
few questions, expecting to log back on in a day or two. Three hours
later at around 8 pm, my phone rang and it was one of the authors
calling back to explain what I was doing wrong. I was new to
databases at the time, so it took about a half hour for him to set
me straight. After ten minutes, I offered to hang up and call him
back, since the problem was not with the program but with my
knowledge at the time. He wouldn't hear of any such thing, and told
me he would be on the phone as long as it took to get me going. You
can't beat that for customer support!
