Hello, Ed, nice talking to you. EV> I was wondering if you switched from the C=128 to a IBM Compatiable EV> using DOS or to one of the Microsoft Windows OS's when you retired your EV> C=128. This was a handme-up Windows 3.1, I forget what make, but I seem to remember that it was a Philips. ??? EV> MS called WE (Windows Explorer in XP) File Manager (FM) in W3.1 , EV> I can't remember if the name was WE in W95 or W98 or WME. They have changed that moniker again in W-8, it is now File Explorer, IIRP. EV> Early 1984 is when I started using a C=64 PC with the C=1541 FD, EV> I think the GEOS software was developed a few years later. ???? EV> Either the second C=64 I got or the second C=1541 FD came with a GEOS EV> Disk, I can't remember which one it was included with. You have me beat, I started in 85. But I went hogwild, got GEOS and all the peripherals that I could, 24 pin printer, Ramlink and others that allowed a boot in 2 seconds. It was fun. EV> I wanted to use the GEOS disk but I found out that GEOS wouldn't let me EV> use it with a Write Protect label on THEIR floppy disk, so I didn't try EV> it out for a very long time because I didn't want the floppy drive EV> writing something to it and changing it where it was unuseable to me EV> anymore. Funny, I did not have that situation, I can not remember having to have the GEOS disk in place all the time. Working from Ramlink was great. EV> I couldn't figure out why Commodore did that, the floppy disk that came EV> with my first 1541 Drive could be copied and then I could use the copy, EV> but GEOS said NO GO! It has been a few years, Ed, and my RAM does not remember that problem, it was a very smooth operation here, modem and printer were very easy to use. I got a 24-pin #4 so I could print our genealogy that I was working on then. EV> I'm glad that You enjoyed using GEOS, did you have any problems while EV> using it? EV> And was there a FM/WE/FE type program to use in GEOS to find Files and EV> Applications (such as Paint or Write) for GEOS instead of using the EV> Load Quote Dollar Sign Quote Comma Eight used on the C=64 & C=128? Your personal RAM is indeed much better than mine or maybe I did not have that problem when using a Ramlink. All PRGs were loaded instantaneously. And I do not believe that its CPU was up to 1 GHz. Fun days. Did you have any contact with Maurice Randall the creator of Geofax ? I did most of the testing on that PRG. I beat a path on my rug between the C= and the fax machine going to look at the text coming in.
