Apparently the one being edited is copied to a buffer during editing as my
system sent both the original version of the one that was open in the
editor and the following saved message.  This doesn't seem to jibe with
memory, but I will confess to spending minimal time in Max's editor.

The locking mechanism should be found in MSGAPI.
