IS> "9.2.3 Maximum number of octets in an information field (N401)

IS> N401 governs the maximum number of octets that can be carried in the
IS> information field of an I frame, an XID frame, a UI
IS> frame, or a TEST frame transmitted by an error-
IS> correcting entity. The default value of N401 shall

LD> Ok, my modem can tell me this stuff, so what is it saying?

LD> Netcomm 336 to Austel Courier:

LD> XID tx: TEST max info tx =256 max info rx=256 tx win=15 rx win=6
 LD> XID rx: 82800013 Options: RN401 244 TN401 244 RK 15 >> 6 TK 6
                                ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Looks like it's using a N401 rx/tx values of 244 octets ..

 LD> V42bis P1:2048 V42bis P2:32

.. with a V.42bis dictionary size of 2048. Not sure about the P2, or the
other values quoted. I'd guess R/TK might relate to window size, maybe?

 LD> Netcomm 336 to Netcomm 336:

LD> XID tx: TEST max info tx =256 max info rx=256 tx win=15 rx win=6
 LD> XID rx: 82800013 Options: TEST RN401 256 TN401 256 RK 6 TK 6
                                      ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Looks like this is 256 either way ..

 LD> V42bis P1:8192 V42bis P2:250

.. with an 8K compression dictionary, which is big. But what's this P2?

How would you rate the relative performance, subjectively, of the two pairs?
