I knew I should have kept the old Marantz. It would have made a perfect amp
for the computer.
I use the cheapie Labtec computer speakers for my Windows noises. If I want
to record something off the computer, I patch it to a casette deck. Luckily,
I wouldn't want to hear most of the noises this computer makes LOUD and
EAR.
Of course, I'm not a real heavy gamer or this setup would drive me up a wall.
DO NOT buy a Labtec mic. They are awful. I use a tiny little MediaVision
mic I found in a Hamfest for $3.00 and it's much clearer. The Labtec mic
sounds real muddy.
These speakers can be found for around $20. If anyone buys the cheap
abtecs,
pass on the power supply.
Labtec power supplies aren't very good. Just look at the appropriate Labtec
power supply and write down the numbers for voltage and current. Buy
the generic "no-name" wall wart that's hanging on the hook next to it! The
no-name generally gives you twice the current and costs half as much. I
know this because I bought a DOA Labtec wall wart. It had a wire off! I
repaired it, and it ran about a year then it burned out.
