Bill,
I would suggest to do a polirization test to look for stress in the
blank. If you have some old polerized sunglasses that you don't care about
, separate the two lenses. With one fixed to your eye , look
through the glass with the other half on the other side of the glass. Turn
the polirized lens on the opposite
side of the glass until it almost turns black. Now move across the glass
slowly in the same position,
if you see ghost clouds in areas or dark ring fringes then the glass is
tempered and useless.
Check all areas, if you see ripples thats OK but any dark shadows mean a
no go for grinding...
Don't worry about the chips on the outside, if your glass is OK
then put the biggest chip on the bottom and bevel the top side, it will
grind out enough not to matter... good luck
