Identical here except that I'm running a different SDL.  No prizes for 
guessing as to which SDL that is.  I just went back to the same SDL as you
are using and it is as you say, so its just the different SDL.

Yes.

The logs would always report the correct number of rings, it is just a matter
of whether they correspond to the real rings from the line.  It all depends
on which SDL you are running.
