I'm still fighting enviornmental variables like you are. I can run with the current directory set to /var/max (the default setup in the 3.02b configuration), and specifying relative paths from there.... Not as clean as I want before I let other users at the system..... I haven't put any file areas in yet, but I did take a few of my echo areas (including this one) from my OS/2 setup and transfer the squish data files to the Linux box and just run with them. So, it looks like thw squish database is properly being used. I haven't taken my userdatabase over yet to test that one.... But I expect any files handled in a binary manor will just transfer. Those handled in a text manor will need the dos2unix process run on them to clean up end-of-line issues until we can get a fix into the source code..... Take care.....
