| subject: | 33600 connects |
JP> In my experience with 33600 modems (USR and Rockwells), I've never JP> personally managed a 33600 connect. I have connected Courier to M34F, Since I upgraded my line 2 to 33k6 I've noticed a large number of inbound 33k6 connects. (I modified my #2 batchfile to log them to a special log, for interest's sake). Unfortunately I've never had a 33k6 to my ISP (IBM). I normally get 31k2. Occasionally, and ALWAYS when I force 33k6, I get a negotiation failure at the very end of the handshake. I suspect that IBM is using Couriers and that I am experiencing an "issue" between this code and USR's. The modems on my BBS lines are now all GVCs, which use the standard R6682 datapump, but no Rockwell CPU; the CPU has a strange logo on it sort of like a lower-case delta character. Previous (14k4) GVC modems used an Intel microcontroller, so I guess this chip is PROBABLY a second-sourced Intel-code-compatible device. -- Lewin A.R.W.
