The "messages" are NOT saved back to the .QWK, the Flags/Marks are 
saved back to an .XTI file. 

The "messages" stay in the same serial order in the MESSAGES.DAT file, 
which is not updated in the downloaded .QWK file, and the .XTI relies 
on that order for placing the Flags/Marks. 

By the way... 
This was brought up before. 
Has the Download Directory and/or .QWK files been inadvertently 
labeled as Read Only. 
You should be able to see the "Attributes" with a Windows program 
that lists Folders and Files.
