See my answer to Bob Klahn as to why I think his requirement for military
service is a bit wrong-headed. I envision a program much like the Peace Corps
with the military as a last resort for those who cannot do anything else
productive. Sort of a (I think the name was ) V.I.S.T.A. deal. But, all
physically able would have to undergo basic military training ... and keep
their basic weapon available to themselves and in good repair should the call
come.
