I ran a 28k8 VFC modem here for quite some time and noticed that
connects to other VFC modems were fine but connects to V.34 modems
exhibited that annoying delay. I am now running 33k6s but don't notice
any of those delays on the board I call regularly that runs a VFC.
Not a lot of help to you I know... perhaps if you posted your modem's
config I might be able to glean something from that.
