Indeed, started before that, and one of the biggest reasons
for its failure was the 3/5 rule as I call it, i.e. counting slaves and
others as not a "whole" person.
I still don't understand, after all these years of studying
these folks (the founders) could be down with the concept
of people as chattel after what they were going through.

The corrections made necessary by these errors in thinking
have lead us to a place where the constitution  is fluid,
instead of saying what it means, and meaning what it says.
Anyone reading through it can tell that it was pretty clear
on most points.

A good example of this is what we're probably going to see
come out of this ARizona law re foreigners.  The U.S.
constitution explicitly says that the states do not step
into this arena, that's the job of the Federal government.
But, if the FEderal government won't do it ...

MIght be interesting to see what sort of alliances might
form and how they'd interact with their neighbors.
Especially now, with our industrial base being so far
eroded.
