And so it came to pass, on 01-18-97 10:45,
that Bonnie Goodwin spake unto Adam Preble:
BG> Actually, because most of the Klipsch line is based upon horns, one
BG> of the most efficient acoustical coupling devices known to man,
BG> they only required about 30 watts to get full volume.
They also tend to be quite large compared to direct-radiating enclosures...
BG> The secret to the tremendous bass was that it used the corners of
BG> the room they were placed in as the final flare of a large folded
BG> horn, and that's the reason way they seemed to go down nearly to DC
BG> in frequency response.
... although this method does help keep the overall size down :)
BG> They don't of course, but until recently in some concert arrays,
BG> I've never heard anything that could match this clean punchy bass.
To digress a bit, this is also the reason those old (Smokey and the
Bandit-type) Trans Ams always got such kick-ass bass out of a measly pair of
6x9 speakers mounted in the rear deck: the shape of that car's curved rear
window formed a very effective bass horn; most common 6x9 designs coupled to
it quite well.
BG> Now as far as other speakers they make, they have a considerable
BG> line of products, from home stereo/theatre to pro sound equipment.
BG> I use a pair of their 250 pro audio sound reinforcement speakers
BG> right now in my studio, tried them to see how they would sound and
BG> they've been there for about 4 years now.
And have you gone back to the store to pay for them yet? :-)
A friend of mine picked up a set of Klipsch Heresy models (for CDN$500, not
bad) - they make a nice complement to his Alesis Monitor Ones in his living
room studio setup.
BG> Living in an apartment, I also have a night mode, where the subs go
BG> off, and I slip in a low pass filter into each channel to boost
BG> the bottom response some, but not those frequencies so low as to
BG> disturb my neighbors.
I wonder how they'd react if you got some Intersonic Servodrive subs?
Muahahahah!
BG> You were originally asking about speakers for computers... my
BG> recommendation is to use some good bookshelf speakers and leave
BG> those that are "computer speakers" for those that have no ears and
BG> unlimited pocketbooks.
A small bookshelf amp and a pair of Minimus 7s would be lovely!
