On 06-03-10, DAVE DRUM said to ALL: DD>Note to Hulet, Richardson, Croasmun and the rest of the "not invented DD>here" bunch - pay particular attention to the last paragraph. Note to the slow-minded: DD>BP has received at least 38,000 unconventional ideas from around the world DD>to stop the oil leak, including the use of oil-eating bacteria around the No doubt ideas from all over poured in, ad infinitum! I didn't call in any of mine, as I am not knowledgeable on drilling for oil 5000 feet beneath the surface of the ocean. I have to wonder how many ideas the 5000-feet-beneath-the-sea-oil-drilling experts like Drum, Lewis, Otto, Chirnside, Klahn (and don't forget Wilson) phioned in to them. I wonder how many of the above-mentioned's ideas were used by BP to try to stop the leak. DD>Perhaps the most alarming idea to reach the oil company was a nuclear DD>explosion over the wellhead, a method which has worked in Russia. BP says DD>it has no plans to use a nuclear explosion as a solution to the crisis. *Russia* does a lot of things, not all of which are very sensible. A nuclear blast is an uncontrolled thing. Once the nuke `goes off', there's nothing that `controls' it. Whatever Russia did along these lines to `cap' an undersea oil leak, could as easily have made the thing far worse than it already was. (Gee! Lets not let *that* possibility occur to us!) The only reason we heard about Chernobyl was that it got so large it affected a large part of the area, and was detected world-wide. The Russians couldn't cover it up. Who knows what the old Soviet Union did, or the new Russia does that is unsafe, that we never hear of? At that depth they might get a structure over the spewing pipe to capture the oil `there' (as I suggested), which at least might be a `start'. By the way........I just heard on the news that they have finally managed to lower some sort of `containment' bell over the leak, and will be directing much of that spewing oil to a waiting tanker on the surface. Gosh.......didn't I suggest something like that a few days ago? --- *Durango b301 #PE** Origin: Doc's Place BBS Fido Since 1991 docsplace.tzo.com (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 3/0 633/267 640/954 712/0 313 550 848 @PATH: 123/140 500 261/38 712/848 633/267 |
