I have inflamatory arthritis caused by Hemochromatosis.  The arthritis
has progressed very rapidly.  Being bled a pint of blood every two weeks
for over a year left me so weak I was hardly moving ... which made my
arthritis worse.  The blood letting now has the toxic iron level that
was in my vital organs close enough to normal for me to be bled only
once every three months.  So my strength is starting to come back.
With Hemochromatosis if the toxic level of iron happens to be put in the
bones it is rare that the bleeding leaches this out ... well fed organs
like the heart tend to get rid of the iron more reliably.
Hemochromatosis is a genetic disease that you only get if both parents
are carriers.  Although I had sysmptoms for years I only got diagnosed
in March of '96.
