I'd actually implemented something of this sort under 2.x,  and still use
that setup.  It uses keys,  and there's a sub-menu available for the user
to turn various groups on and off.  Code mostly what someone passed to me a
long time ago,  and it still works fine...

Since that's the case,  I've never seen any point in changing to the new
setup once 3.x came out.
