DW> Might you be with the Disabled Sailing Association of B.C.?
I have been a volunteer instructor for the past two years. Unfortunately, a
new job and my duties as Commodore of my little yacht club preclude my
participation this year....
DW> I'm interested in learning more about your experiences with
DW> Sunbirds. I would really like to go to Vancouver. Do you know
The Sunbirds are ok boats. Cost is prohibitive and the design could use some
improvement. These are two of the reasons DSA-BC has gotten the Don Martin
(designer of the Martin 242 and others) involved in a new boat.
DW> Larry Bowden? Can quadriplegics sail them or persons w/limited
I know who Larry is, but I doubt you could say I really _know_ him. :)
DW> arm movement? Do your boats have weighted keels or centerboards?
The boat uses a joystick for the rudder. It's easily managed by people with
limited arm and hand movement if rigged properly. The keel has a bulb,
mounted on a crank to lower it as a centreboard. The rudder also flips up,
making it easier to launch and retreive from a trailer with a "catch person".
DW> I'm interested in trying a Kaufman drop-in seat and learning
DW> about other boats like the Freedom Independence which I could
We've never heard of the Kaufman seat. We'd like to know what it is. We're
interested in incorporating a better system in the new boat.
DW> use. I'm not sure what "snail mail" is. My internet e-mail
DW> address is WBXS10A@PRODIGY.COM
Snail mail is the US Postal Service where you are, here it's Canada Post. :)
DW> Thank you for your response, and I look forward to hearing
DW> from you.
Send me your mailing address and I'll get you some pamphlets.
