ASTRONOMY EVENTS IN NEW YORK

    The following activities in New York are operated by various 
organizations, including astronomy clubs. A couple extra activities of 
special importance to City astronomers may be included. 
    The activities here are almost all within New York City. For a 
more regional slate of astro events, check the calendar section in the 
NYSkies Yahoo egroup. How to join NYSkies is explained in the yadda-
yadda below. 
    All times are Eastern Standard Time.

               Pupin Hall, 14th Floor. Clearsky viewing from 
               both domes on rooftop. Dates not set by 29 Dec;

Wed -  1 Jan - all day - Amer Mus Natl Hist - MH - Einstein exhibit
               Thru August 2003. 4th floor. $7 timed ticket after 
               entering Museum.

Fri -  3 Jan - 18:00 - Amer Mus Natl Hist - MH - monthly lecture 
               Dr Edwin Turner, Princeton University
               'Characteristics of extrasolar planets and plants'
               Enter thru 77th St or CPW gates, ask guard for 
               'astronomy' lecture, admission is free. 

Tue -  7 Jan - 18:30 - AAA-HQ - MH - Descriptive Astronomy Class 
               Illustrative descriptive course for newcomers, with
               some arithmetic. Instructors Stew Rorer and John
               Pazmino. Class concludes on January 7th. 

Wed -  8 Jan - 18:30 - AAA-HQ - MH - Board of Directors meeting 
               Discuss and vote on ByLaw proposals, held over from
               November 2002. All AAAers are welcome to attend.

Thu -  9 Jan - 18:30 - AAA-HQ - MH - Recent Astronomy Seminar 
               Discussion of current topics in astronomy using 
               popular and technical literature, like S&T, ApJ, 
               NY Times, magazines, websites, Science News. 

Sat - 11 Jan - 12:45 - AAA-HQ - MH - Observing Group Meeting 
               General membership gathering for briefings on 
               upcoming celestial events, project work, show & 
               tell, instructional talks and demos. 

Tue - 14 Jan - 19:00 - Amer Mus Natl Hist - MH - astronomy lecture
               Dr Neil Tyson, 'City of Stars', $12 adm.               

Wed - 15 Jan - 19:00 - Amer Mus Natl Hist - MH - Einstein lecture
               Dr Howard Gardner, 'Genius', $15 adm

Sat - 18 Jan - 13:00 - Cadman Pz - BK - Telescope Workshop
