You need to find what is setting the Read-Only attribute. 

After removing the Read-Only attribute, there is probably also a way 
to save that change, that you aren't doing. 
Windows has always seemed to make things hard to do, compared to 
the same DOS program. 
I like Procomm for DOS, hate Procomm for Windows. 
Same with the graphical drafting program for DOS. 
Same with an earlier version of Wordstar for DOS. 

I can open the same .QWK packet with two seperate BW setups at once, 
and, using Buerg's LIST program, see that only the Archive attribute 
has been set.
