| subject: | To C Or Not To C |
Hi, Paul. PE> CW>> Just wondering what your thoughts about teaching Year 12 students a PE> CW>> particular language? My thoughts are either Pascal or C etc. PE> CW>> People have told me Pascal is the learning language, but I have read PE> CW>> that C is possible a better one to learn. Please reply? Or anyone PE> CW>> else? PE> FM> Paul will probably say C - I suggest you stick to Pascal, both as a PE> FM> 'learning' language and for development of real live applications. FIM. PE>Just goes to show you shouldn't class me as a one-eyed PE>bigot after all. Yes, sincere apologies once again. PE> As for development of real applications, PE>for as long as speed, C is the only way to go, everything PE>else is just a joke. C is a language, and is well PE>documented in ISO/IEC 9899:1990, giving you a predictable PE>outcome of your program. It is available on practically PE>any platform you care to name, and is a totally usable PE>language. Pascal is a joke, and Turbo Pascal is a joke PE>available on MSDOS only, and has no standard associated PE>with it. BFN. Turbo Pascal is also a totally usable language - a lot more so than C (IMHO, of course). The current non-availability on other platforms is irrelevant if there is no market for your product which uses other than DOS/Windows. The "standard" issue is IMHO a furphy, although I'm aware that you have a big thing about it.
