When you see Egyption instead on a good clean "RING" it is usually because

your port speed is not locked at the same rate as your modem's ATI5 speed

indicates is saved in the NVRAM.



Set ALL your software up at 38400, 57600, 115200 (what ever turns you on)

LOCK it, Go into terminal mode set your modem to the speed you want to run at.

Now do an AT&W.



Problem solved, no more garbage



Something may have changed one of you software settings before, so that it was

different to what the modem is saved at.
